The band released the single The Red, which reached No. 3 on the Mainstream rock charts, and the video was played in regular rotation on MTV. Wonder What's Next soon peaked at No. 14 on the United States Billboard 200 album chart. Wonder Whats Next is the second studio album by Chevelle and major label debut, released on October 8, 2002 through Epic Records. Wonder Whats Next was the bands only collaboration with producer Garth Richardson. The Red was the first single released for the album on July 22, 2002 and is arguably the bands most well-known song. Send the Pain Below was the second single released on January 28, 2003, followed by Closure on September 2, 2003. The title of the sophomore Chevelle disc is actually an apt question, as those following the group through the Chicago underground pondered what group would do on a sophomore disc that came with major-label backing and a move from noise-mensch Steve Albini to star-maker Garth Richardson at the production helm. So really what made this album so special to me Five years after my purchase, I look back on Wonder What's Next. Listening to Chevelle, you probably couldn't tell they're a trio. They sound just as powerful as a four piece, or even a five piece band. The instrumental work is basic, but gets the job done. Pete Loefflers' riffs are extremely heavy but remain catchy. However, one of the biggest drawbacks of Wonder What's Next is that the songs consist of power chord riffs with almost no variety
