Album

Víctor Hugo Díaz August 10, 1927 in Santiago del Estero, Argentina - October 23, 1977 in Buenos Aires, Argentina was a tango, folklore and jazz harmonicist. Díaz was born to a poor family in the small city of Santiago del Estero. At the age of five he lost his sight when hit by a soccer ball, which led him to play the harmonica. Two years later, after surgery restored his eyesight, he was already performing regularly for a local radio. Hugo Díaz en Buenos Aires. 27 listeners. 8 Dec 1999 36 tracks. The Hugo Diaz Trio consisted of the late Hugo Diaz on bandoneon kind of a big button-accordion, Miguel Angel Ledesma on piano, and Horacio Cabarcos on bass. This is a minimum ensemble, but their sound is full, largely due to the full and rich sound production of Diaz and the robust playing of Ledesma. Cabarcos has a nice tone, especially when he uses the bow, but he is best-heard on headphones. Most of the pieces are fairly short and never outstay their welcome. They are mostly from the 1920s-1940s, although every piece sounds up to date in Diaz's hands. See a detailed Hugo Díaz timeline, with an inside look at his albums & more through the years. I'm after the CD format, which combined volumes 1 and 2
