This is the latest recording of The 4th Dimension and is a further affirmation of the groups evolution. I am personally thrilled with the performances on this recording. They represent a complete portrait of the individual and group talents. anyone here, catch Mr McLaughlin and company at the Toronto Jazz Festival on June 23 . Guitarist John McLaughlin and his 4th Dimension group's studio debut, To The One Abstract Logix, 2010, mined the past for inspiration. The spirit of saxophonist John Coltrane's A Love Supreme Impulse, 1965 drove McLaughlin's most charged electric playing in years, proving he'd lost none of his fire. Keyboardist Gary Husband-ever-present in the 4th Dimension since 2007-and Barot take short, lively solos, but melody and groove win the day outright. The slower, more spacious compositions are arresting. M'Bappes' purring fretless bass, McLaughlin's tender guitar-synth lines and Husband's spare piano playing combine beautifully on the soothing Waterfall. With his latest band, the 4th Dimension, McLaughlin has been on a tear. The band's first offering, To the One, is a direct jazz-rock investigation of John Coltrane's influence on McLaughlin's musical thinking. Now Here This is a knottier jazz-rock fusion offering - with all the positive connotations of that word and none of the negative. Guitar star John McLaughlin celebrates his 70th birthday with this album and his 11 November appearance in the London jazz festival. The group is Gary Husband on keys, Etienne M'Bappé on bass guitar and Ranjit Barot on drums and Indian percussion. The tracklist mixes McLaughlin's signature technique of sprint-and-stop Indian melodies with western electric fusion, old-school R&B and ballads. If the feverish drum licks of the opening Trancefusion or the backbeats and scattergun fills of Riff Raff initially sound like more of the same, an exuberance replaces bravura in the latter st. Now Here This. John McLaughlin John Mclaughlin And the 4th Dimension Format: Audio CD. This album is not simply a follow up to To The One a brilliant album inspired by John's love of Coltrane's music. Instead John continues to move into new territory, here aided by an updated band and a new PRS guitar. John's chops are legendary and he adds new flavors to his playing on Now Here This did I hear some Beck inspired playing in there. The fact that John continues to raise his own personal bar for musical expression is incredible. John McLaughlin And The 4th Dimension : Now Here This is a fusion music album recording by JOHN MCLAUGHLIN released in 2012 on CD, LPVinyl andor cassette. John McLaughlin is one of my favourite guitarists, his early solo work that meandered through free jazz and psychedelia was superb, while with Mahavishnu and Shakti he was breathtaking. Listen to music from John McLaughlin and the 4th Dimension like Call and Answer, Being You Being Me & more. Find the latest tracks, albums, and images from John McLaughlin and the 4th Dimension. In the liner notes for To the One, guitarist John McLaughlin writes a brief essay about the profound inspiration John Coltrane's A Love Supreme had on him musically and spiritually. In the Mahavishnu Orchestra, that debt was obvious on Love Devotion Surrender, with Carlos Santana, the pair covered its title theme. John McLaughlin & The 4th Dimension. Trancefusion, 07:16.
