A reissue of The Kingstonians sole album from 1970 - an influential outfit that only burned brightly for a short time, but what a time. Married to a winning tune, Sufferer kicked up a storm on both the JA and UK Reggae scenes and launched the Kingstonians to the forefront of the Reggae boom. It also featured on the second in the Tighten Up series, a key artefact in Skinhead subculture. Though not having the hits of their competitors the Pioneers, their originality saw them viewed in their homeland as the premier vocal act. Sufferer Lyrics. About Sufferer. Sufferer Q&A. The Kingstonians' only album, Sufferer, was originally released on LP in 1970. Produced by Derrick Harriott, it remains a marvelous example of the Jamaican vocal trio's approach to rocksteady and early roots reggae. Harriott and Kingstonians leader Jackie Bernard co-wrote most of the songs on the album, with two of them, Singer Man and the bubbly but melancholy Sufferer, becoming sizeable hits in Jamaica. The Kingstonians were a Jamaican rocksteadyreggae vocal group best known for their late 1960s recordings for producer Derrick Harriott. Formed in 1966, the group comprised Cebert Jackie Bernard, his brother Lloyd Footy Bernard, and Lloyd Kerr. They first recorded for producer J. Johnson, and had their first hit with Winey Winey in 1967. Between 1968 and 1970 they recorded for producer Derrick Harriott, and had chart-topping singles with Singer Man later covered by Three Dog Night and UB40
